Modern, Contemporary, Residents & the Global Art Forum
As the 12th Edition of Art Dubai opens its doors to the public, the fair reaffirms its position as a leading international art fair and the preeminent place to discover art from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Featuring 105 galleries from 48 countries, Art Dubai continues to engage locally with global communities, reflecting the very essence of both Dubai and the UAE.
In this edition, the fair considers work both Modern and Contemporary, hosting the largest exhibition of Modern art from the region to date where 16 galleries from 14 countries are showcasing collective exhibitions, solo booths and collaborative works. The fair also launches its new section ‘Residents’, where a series of four-to-eight week residencies of 11 artists exhibit their work created throughout this period, and inspired by their time in the UAE.
Commenting on the success of ‘Residents’, Art Dubai Artistic Director, Pablo del Val, stated that “it’s been extremely rewarding to launch ‘Residents’ and see it culminate at the fair; this initiative is in line with our objective to both engage communities and attract new energies to the fair and city”.
The Global Art Forum – the largest annual arts conference in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia – also embraces the notion of engaging communities and attracting new energies to the fair and city as it continues to examine culture from a variety of disciplines. In bringing together leading minds from a multiplicity of fields to discuss a specific topic – this year’s ‘I Am Not a Robot’ – the Forum contributes to Dubai’s local engagement with global communities and takes Art Dubai beyond the commercial aspect of art fairs.
On show at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai until Saturday 24th March, Art Dubai – once again – establishes itself as an art fair of both international and local importance.
