Open Call:

The Yves Klein Foundation launches its first Research Grant, inviting applications from emerging researchers worldwide. The programme supports original research projects that deepen understanding of Yves Klein’s work, ideas, and legacy.

The initiative combines a funded residency with scholarly support, encouraging new perspectives on the artist’s impact across cultural, social, and ecological contexts.

Institutional Context:

The Yves Klein Foundation is dedicated to preserving, studying, and promoting the legacy of Yves Klein, a key figure in postwar avant-garde art. Its activities include exhibitions, research projects, publications, and conservation of the artist’s work.

Through this research grant programme, the Foundation aims to foster new scholarship and situate Klein’s work within contemporary debates, ensuring its continued relevance today.

Eligibility and Criteria:

The call is open to:

  • Researchers of any nationality and country of residence
  • Applicants under 35 years of age
  • Candidates holding a PhD or postdoctoral degree
  • Researchers working in art history, aesthetics, or the humanities.

Applicants must demonstrate strong proficiency in French or English and propose a research project that requires access to Yves Klein-related resources.

Evaluation Process:

Applications are reviewed by a jury composed of art world professionals and representatives of the Foundation.

Selection is based on:

  • Originality and relevance of the research project
  • Scientific and methodological quality
  • Feasibility within the residency framework
  • Relevance of archival and documentary research needs

Practical Information:

  • Grant: CHF 6,000 research stipend
  • Residency: One week, equivalent to five working days on site
  • Location: Access to archives in Paris, coordinated by the Foundation

Support includes:

  • Research funding is paid in two instalments.
  • Travel and accommodation are covered by the Foundation.
  • Access to archives and a dedicated workspace
  • Scholarly guidance throughout the research process

The residency is scheduled for autumn 2026, with the exact dates to be agreed with the selected researcher.
