Mohammad Alfaraj reimagines home, kinship and our entangled relationships with the more-than-human world at Delfina Foundation.
21 september

In ‘The Heart is a bird’s nest, the brain is a spider web‘, Saudi artist Mohammad Alfaraj transforms Delfina Foundation into an expansive meditation on belonging, memory and the fragile networks connecting human and non-human life.
Marking Alfaraj’s first institutional solo exhibition in Europe, the exhibition brings together new commissions and recent works spanning installation, drawing, photography, film and sculpture. Conceived in response to Delfina Foundation’s domestic setting, where Alfaraj has previously been an artist in residence, the exhibition approaches home not as a fixed place, but as a shared ecology shaped by relationships, stories and imagination.
Drawing on social rituals, folklore, and everyday life, Alfaraj creates worlds in which animals, insects, and plants become neighbours, relatives, and companions. His practice is deeply informed by his upbringing in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, an oasis region where the relationship between human life and the natural environment remains central to his thinking.
Poetic, spiritual and quietly playful, ‘The heart is a bird’s nest, the brain is a spider web’ asks audiences to reconsider where family begins and ends, and how our understanding of home might expand beyond ourselves.
This exhibition is on view at the Delfina Foundation in London from 29 September to 22 November 2026.
