Delcy Morelos transforms Bozar into a multisensory sanctuary where ancestral knowledge, architecture, and ecology converge.

Colombian artist Delcy Morelos invites audiences into an immersive encounter with earth, memory, and materiality. On view at Bozar, Brussels and presented as part of the Bozar Monumental series, the newly commissioned installation, Uterus in Uterus, reimagines the iconic Horta Hall as a contemplative environment shaped by organic matter, Indigenous knowledge, and ecological consciousness.
Constructed from locally sourced clay, earth, fibres, sand, hay, and aromatic botanicals, the monumental structure draws on ancient wattle-and-daub building techniques shared across the Americas, Africa, and Europe. More than an architectural intervention, the installation activates the senses through scent, texture, scale, and light, encouraging visitors to reconnect with the living intelligence of the natural world. Collaborating with Belgian architect Jasper van der Linden and Mexican architecture studio TAMAT, Morelos creates a dialogue between vernacular construction traditions and Victor Horta’s celebrated Art Nouveau architecture.
At the heart of Morelos’ practice lies the belief that matter itself carries memory and spirit. Uterus in Uterus unfolds as both refuge and ritual space, evoking the protective form of a nest while recalling temples, tombs, and communal gathering places across cultures. By placing ancestral knowledge at the centre of contemporary artistic discourse, the exhibition proposes an alternative understanding of monumentality, one rooted not in permanence or power, but in care, reciprocity, and our enduring relationship with the earth.
