From the Press Release: “Winning a juried competition is not only a notable edition to the CV of any artist, but a vote of confidence in your work by a panel from the art world. What sets The Lovell Gallery Artists Competition apart is that we do not focus on the single artwork, but on the artist and their work as a whole. This makes selection by our jury even more meaningful, because they are giving the nod to your potential as a collectable artist. Our jury has been selected to provide a broad spectrum of views from the art world. Your judges for the competition are: Haydn Proud: painter and accomplished academic – with works hanging in the National Gallery as well an important curatorial role within it. Peter Badenhorst: Renowned investment art collector. Peter is expert at recognizing future stars. He is from time to time asked to loan out parts of his extensive collection for high profile public exhibitions. Emma Willemse: Contemporary artist using a wide range of media such as video, installations, drawing, photography and printmaking. Art lecturer, and tutor to university students (UNISA). Tamzin Lovell Miller: photographic artist, gallerist, as well as MD of marketing strategy consultancy, Berge Farrell Strategy. They will be looking for work that is of excellent technical quality, cohesive as a body of work (the individual pieces fits together into the chosen theme, story or style), and is backed up by a clear and compelling artists statement. The number of winners selected will be up to the judges, based on the merit of the entries. For those that do win, The Lovell Gallery will provide all the help and guidance they need on how to prepare their solo exhibition. This will include guidance on pricing, production, and creating their story, as well as mentoring and marketing them going forward. Entries close on 30 April 2011 and the winners will be announced on our website by 31 May 2011.
