Mosa Anita Kaiser’s ‘Residues of Proximity: One Body, Many Parts’ traces memory, inheritance and becoming through the living archive of the body

The Bag Factory presents ‘Residues of Proximity: One Body, Many Parts’, a solo exhibition by Mosa Anita Kaiser, curated by Melusi Masike, that explores the body as a site where memory endures, transforms and returns. Through vivid imagery and deeply personal reflections, Kaiser invites viewers into an intimate encounter with the traces that shape our lives long after the moment has passed.
Positioned between presence and absence, the exhibition considers the body as a living archive that carries histories of longing, joy, grief, repair, and resilience. Rather than treating memory as something fixed or distant, Kaiser reveals it as an active force that continues to move through gesture, ritual and everyday experience. The works navigate the delicate terrain between what has been lost and what remains, uncovering the fragments of self gathered across generations and lived realities.
Moving fluidly between delight and sorrow, the ordinary and the extraordinary, ‘Residues of Proximity: One Body, Many Parts’ reflects on questions of belonging, cultural inheritance and embodiment. Here, the body is neither spectacle nor object, but a vessel of remembering and becoming.
In an age marked by rupture and displacement, Kaiser’s exhibition offers a poignant meditation on what persists, and how memory continues to shape who we are and who we might yet become.
