‘Sortilégios de desvio’ by No Martins arrives as a compelling articulation of contemporary Brazilian artistic practice, unfolding at the Museu de Arte do Rio, in collaboration with Galeria Almeida & Dale. Marking the artist’s first solo exhibition at the institution, the presentation highlights a significant selection of Martins’ recent works, tracing the poetic and conceptual trajectories that define his evolving language.

Curated by Marcelo Campos, Amanda Bonan, Thayná Trindade, Amanda Rezende, and Jean Carlos Azuos, the exhibition foregrounds a nuanced engagement with image-making, gesture, and spatial intervention. Martins’ practice navigates the intersections of memory, urban experience, and Afro-Brazilian cultural imaginaries, constructing visual narratives that oscillate between intimacy and collective resonance.

‘Sortilégios de desvio’ unfolds as a field of deviations, where form and meaning are continually reconfigured, inviting viewers into a dynamic encounter with the artist’s sensibility. The exhibition’s title gestures toward acts of enchantment and transformation, framing Martins’ work as both a site of critical reflection and a space of poetic possibility.

In this context, the exhibition situates Martins within a broader contemporary discourse, affirming the urgency and clarity of his voice within the current cultural landscape.South

This exhibition is on view at Museu de Arte do Rio until 20 September 2026.
