Larissa Sansour reimagines history through science fiction, myth, and the politics of memory.

At Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, Palestinian artist Larissa Sansour invites audiences into a world where fact and fiction collapse into one another, revealing the fragile architectures of memory, identity, and belonging. ‘Rogue Agents of History’, the artist’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands, presents a compelling constellation of film, installation, photography, personal artefacts, and historical objects that challenge conventional understandings of the past and the futures we dare to imagine.
Known for her cinematic visual language and speculative approach to storytelling, Sansour draws on science fiction as a powerful tool for navigating Palestinian histories and lived realities. Across three major film works, including the newly commissioned A Sunken Tale of Losses Delayed, visitors encounter pirates, ghosts, and guerrilla archaeologists who disrupt official narratives and reclaim the right to tell their own stories.
Moving fluidly between the Ottoman era, contemporary occupation, and imagined futures, the exhibition refuses linear notions of time. Instead, it offers a space where inherited trauma, resilience, and collective memory become sites of resistance and possibility.
Profoundly poetic and politically charged, ‘Rogue Agents of History’ positions Sansour among the most vital artistic voices working today, reminding us that the struggle over history is ultimately a struggle over the future itself.
