OPEN CALL: PUBLIC ART FOR THE THIRD PHASE OF THE
REA VAYA BUS RAPID TRANSIT STATIONS IN JOHANNESBURG (BRT 1C)

From the Press Release: “Attention: Artists living in the greater Johannesburg area Commission: Artists are requested to come up with designs relevant to the area and context of eachof the new BRT stations, or to adapt existing artwork as per prior arrangement withthe Artworks Joint Venture. Designs would be sandblasted and/or painted onto glasspanels, or laser-cut and/or painted onto mild-steel sheets.Please visit any of the completed stations to view the existing artwork, or go tohttp://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=215928640888071874151.0004641f6b47d9c3f51f6to see a Google Map of all BRT artworks installed to date. A selection panel comprising the Client (the Johannesburg Development Agency andthe Department of Arts, Culture & Heritage), together with independent artspecialists, will choose designs based on a demonstrated understanding of theconceptual, contextual and technical requirements set out in the briefing document.The selection committee’s decision will be final, and no correspondence will beentered into in this regard.
