A dance tour by Compagnie 7273 is the highlight of Pro Helvetia’s programme in the second quarter of 2010. The tour, which showcases two contemporary dance pieces, also will appeal to audiences of all ages. 7273 will facilitate two workshops – one of which, ‘Family Dance’, seeks to reconnect parents and children. There also are music treats by the Mozambican-Swiss outift Watsamba M’Diou, which will tour the Southern African region. Both acts will make appearances at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (26 April – 1 May).

Dance and romanceThe Swiss dance duo Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon, who make up Cie 7273, bring two contemporary pieces to Southern Africa in April 2011. ‘Romance-S’ is a contemporary love story and pas de deux of elegant simplicity, while ‘Listen & Watch’ is an endless and intense pursuit of the spiritual and physical limits in dance. 7273 can be seen in Joburg, Oudtshoorn, Cape Town, Maputo and Harare between 4 and 29 April. No More Ice CreamThis is the title of Vanessa Safavi’s first exhibition in South Africa, and the conclusion to her three month residency in Cape Town. The installation, an eclectic ensemble of individual works and objects, is a continuation of Safavi’s interest in fusing the contradictions of references from opposing cultures and fields (in this case life and death, industry and nature, affluence and poverty) without declaring the victory of one over the other. It closes on 9 April. www.blankprojects.comHeritage and photography in MakwetengWith support from Pro Helvetia through its SDC mandate, the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg is running the Makweteng project.
