At Migros Museum, Mohamed Bourouissa transforms personal memory into a powerful reflection on visibility, migration and care.

What does it mean to belong in a world structured by exclusion? At the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich, French-Algerian artist Mohamed Bourouissa confronts this question through ‘Pour Noubia’, a deeply personal exhibition that expands into a broader meditation on visibility, migration and collective memory. Centred on the story of the artist’s aunt Noubia, the exhibition unfolds through intimate diasporic narratives that challenge the omissions of dominant historical, media and artistic frameworks.
Working across photography, film, installation and collaborative practice, Bourouissa has long examined the social and political conditions that shape marginalised lives. In ‘Pour Noubia’, personal histories serve as a lens through which larger questions of identity, representation, and social cohesion are explored. Fiction and documentary intertwine, creating a space where memory is neither fixed nor singular, but continually negotiated.
Part of the Migros Museum’s 2026 programme dedicated to solidarity, the exhibition invites viewers to consider how images can resist erasure and foster new forms of relation. Bourouissa offers no simple answers. Instead, he opens a terrain where belonging is understood as an ongoing act of recognition, care and imagination.
