Galerie Cécile Fakhoury is pleased to present ‘Memory Devices‘, a special project by artist Cheikh Ndiaye at the Project Space in Abidjan.

Cheikh Ndiaye, Rabotage, 2022. 77 x 115cm. Courtesy of the artist and Galerie Cécile Fakhoury.
Known for his paintings of West African cinemas, architectural objects that he has set up as a medium for social and historical reading, Cheikh Ndiaye opens up his painting and installation practice by offering different points of view: from cinemas we move on to churches, from the exterior we enter the interior, and from the present we go back in time to observe images from the past. Like memory devices, the works create a spatio-temporal journey in which Cheikh Ndiaye zooms in on the details of buildings and captures iconic film scenes to provide, again and again, a record of the West African landscape in all its complexity and emotion.
The Project Space welcomes a series of installations created during the artist’s residency in Abidjan.
The exhibition will be on view from the 22nd of June until the 2nd of September, 2023. For more information, please visit Galerie Cécile Fakhoury.
