A collective exhibition at Mémorial ACTe traces memory, belonging, and the evolving landscape of the Caribbean World.

Mémorial ACTe in Pointe à Pitre, Guadeloupe, presents ‘Nou an péyi révé, Traversées de la mangrove’, an ambitious collective exhibition inspired by the life, thought, and literary legacy of Guadeloupean writer Maryse Condé. Conceived by Elisabeth Gustave, Tiyi Kalmery, Olivier Marboeuf, and Christelle Clairville, the exhibition brings together twenty-eight contemporary artists from the Caribbean and Africa in a compelling exploration of history, identity, and collective futures.
Drawing on Condé’s landmark novel Traversée de la mangrove, the exhibition approaches the mangrove as both landscape and metaphor. It becomes a space of entanglement, resilience, migration, and transformation, where colonial histories intersect with contemporary realities and new possibilities emerge. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and video, the participating artists construct a rich, polyphonic narrative that imagines Guadeloupe not as an isolated island but as part of a wider constellation of cultural, historical, and diasporic connections.
Extending beyond the gallery, the exhibition unfolds through a programme of public conversations, symposia, and community gatherings known as Biks, inviting artists, thinkers, and local communities into dialogue around memory, transmission, and the future of the Caribbean. In doing so, ‘Nou an péyi révé, Traversées de la mangrove’ offers more than an exhibition. It proposes a living space of encounter where art becomes a means of imagining new relationships between place, history, and the many worlds that continue to emerge from the archipelago.
