Open Call:
Sharjah Art Foundation invites applications for the ninth cycle of its Short Film Production Grant, presented in conjunction with Sharjah Film Platform. Open to filmmakers worldwide, the grant supports the completion of short films across all genres.
Institutional Context:
The grant is part of Sharjah Film Platform, the Foundation’s annual festival dedicated to independent cinema and moving image. The initiative reflects Sharjah Art Foundation’s broader commitment to supporting contemporary artistic production and fostering innovative storytelling. Selected films may premiere at a future edition of the platform, offering filmmakers international visibility within a curated festival context.
Eligibility and Criteria:
The open call is accessible to filmmakers of all ages, backgrounds and regions, with no restrictions on genre. Projects must qualify as short films, defined as works with a total runtime of 50 minutes or less, including credits. Applicants are required to submit a recorded three-minute pitch, along with a script, a budget plan, and a production schedule.
Evaluation Process:
Submissions are evaluated based on the strength of the project’s concept, narrative structure and artistic approach. Reviewers also consider the feasibility of the production plan. Funding decisions and the number of selected projects are determined according to the specific needs of each proposal.
Practical Information:
A total of AED 120,000 (approximately USD 30,000) will be distributed across selected projects. Individual grant amounts vary depending on project requirements. In addition to financial support, selected filmmakers may receive the opportunity to premiere their work at a future Sharjah Film Platform, providing access to international audiences and industry networks.
The deadline for applications is 28 May 2026, 11:59 pm UAE time. Late applications will not be considered.
