LATITUDES is a new fair for African art in international times
Bringing together a curated selection of artists, galleries, independent curators and institutions, LATITUDES is a platform for the diverse art economies of the majority world. The fair takes a lateral and flexible approach to mediating and selling art, in which all applicants are considered equally viable.
LOCATION
The first edition of the fair will take place within a 900 m2 marquee at Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton, Johannesburg from Thursday, 12 Sept – Sunday, 15 Sept.
The Fair will preview to VIP guests on Thursday 12 September and thereafter will be open to the public from Friday 13 Sept to Sunday 15 Sept.
ELIGIBILITY
Bringing together a curated selection of galleries, artists and independent spaces, LATITUDES is a platform for the diverse art economies of the majority world.
The fair takes a lateral and flexible approach to mediating and selling art, in which artists, galleries, independent curators, online entities, and institutions are regarded as equally viable applicants.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The LATITUDES Committee is comprised of experts in the field and remains anonymous. In the interests of impartiality, no gallerist are invited to the committee. Exhibitors are selected according to qualitative and conceptional criteria.

LATITUDES encourages the submission of installations, new media, videos and performances.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING
ESSAY
Each year the fair will present a focus section featuring the work of one established and one emerging artist. ESSAY is geared towards rarely-seen work by artists beginning their careers and overlooked masters.
AFRICAN ART PRIZE
The fair is thrilled to host an annual solo exhibition by the winner of the African Art Prize in partnership with the Emerging African Art Galleries Association.
