‘SOIL & WATER’ brings artists, ecology and lived experience together at Nyandungu Eco-Park, exploring the fragile systems that sustain life.

16 September 2026

What happens when we pause to consider the ground beneath our feet and the water that moves through it? ‘SOIL & WATER: KIGALI CROSSING‘ brings this elemental relationship into focus through an evolving programme of artistic research, exhibitions and engagement at Nyandungu Eco-Park in Kigali.

Part of NIROX’s wider SOIL & WATER initiative, the Kigali iteration extends a conversation that connects ecological systems with social, political and cultural realities. Across artistic practices and perspectives, the programme considers soil and water not simply as natural resources, but as living conditions through which histories, communities and futures are negotiated.

The project brings together international and local collaborations, creating space to reflect on environmental change, water scarcity, pollution, land, extraction, and the complex relationships between human and more-than-human worlds. From documentary photography and film to sculpture, sound and participatory practices, the works invite audiences to encounter ecology through the senses as much as through information.

At Nyandungu Eco-Park, art becomes a way of listening to place, asking us to reconsider how we inhabit, share and care for the environments that sustain us.

This exhibition is on view at Nyandungu Eco-Park, Kigali, Rwanda, from 29 August 2026 until 31 March 2027.
