At 421 Arts Campus, ‘Revelation’ invites audiences into an immersive journey through solitude, attention and the shifting boundaries between inner and outer worlds.

In ‘Revelation‘, UAE artist Juma Alhaj transforms the exhibition space into a gradual journey towards introspection. Developed through the 2025 cycle of 421’s Artistic Development Program, the immersive installation brings together light, material, inscription and spatial experience to consider solitude not simply as withdrawal, but as a space for sustained attention.
Moving between painting, installation, sculpture and text, Alhaj has developed a visual language rooted in journaling, repetition and gestural mark-making. Throughout ‘Revelation‘, inscriptions hover between legibility and abstraction, appearing across engraved glass, large-scale works and suspended elements. Language becomes material, carrying traces of thought without settling into a singular interpretation.
The exhibition culminates in Hijr, a secluded, dimly lit environment anchored by a monolithic water feature. Here, the exhibition turns towards tafakkur, understood as a sustained moment of contemplation and inward reflection. Movement slows, attention deepens, and the viewer becomes an active participant in the work.
Through this carefully constructed encounter, ‘Revelation’ asks what might emerge when we allow ourselves time to pause, observe and turn inward.
This exhibition will be on view at 421 Arts Campus, Abu Dhabi, from 4 October 2026 until 10 January 2027.
