Daoud Aoulad-Syad’s luminous colour photographs reveal the quiet poetry of Morocco at Photo Tangier 2026.

As part of its Hors Les Murs programme, MACAAL presents ‘Le Temps d’un Battement de Cil (In the Blink of an Eye)’, a solo exhibition by celebrated Moroccan artist Daoud Aoulad-Syad. Opening at Galerie Delacroix in Tangier as part of the inaugural edition of Photo Tangier, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to encounter a lesser-known dimension of the artist’s photographic practice.
Widely recognised for his evocative black-and-white images, Aoulad-Syad turns to colour to illuminate the textures, rhythms, and fleeting encounters that shape everyday life across Morocco. For more than three decades, his lens has followed street performers, travelling entertainers, and ordinary people, creating intimate portraits that emerge from trust, proximity, and lived experience rather than observation from afar.
Bringing together a new selection of colour photographs, ‘Le Temps d’un Battement de Cil’ extends the artist’s enduring exploration of Moroccan popular culture while revealing fresh emotional and visual registers. A scenography by Sara Ayoub transforms Galerie Delacroix into a journey inspired by the movement and cadence of the street, inviting visitors to wander through moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
Presented in partnership with the French Institute of Morocco and supported by Fondation Alliances, the exhibition forms part of MACAAL’s ongoing commitment to bringing contemporary Moroccan art into new public and cultural spaces.
This exhibition is on view at Galerie Delacroix in Tangier until 31 August 2026.
