Julianknxx at LUMA Arles and the poetics of memory in motion.

‘In Search of … Incredible’ unfolds as both invocation and inquiry, a meditation on how memory is carried across bodies, geographies, and time. Sierra Leone-born, London-based poet, artist, and filmmaker Julianknxx brings a new commission into the subterranean spaces of the campus, where film, sound, and performance converge in a language that is at once intimate and collective.
Working at the porous edge between poetry and the moving image, Julianknxx composes a sensorial archive in which voice becomes a vessel. Here, memory is not fixed but continually rearticulated, spoken into being through rhythm, breath, and image.
The exhibition resists linear narration, instead offering a spatial poetics shaped by diaspora, identity, and the afterlives of displacement. Immersive and atmospheric, it draws viewers into a choreography of listening in which the boundaries between witness and participant dissolve.
Within the broader ecology of LUMA Arles, itself a site of interdisciplinary experimentation, ‘In Search of …Incredible’ insists on storytelling as a radical act. It is less a search for the extraordinary than a return to the fragile, persistent traces that make it possible.
