Writing Art History Since 2002

First Title

The Basket Case II is a European Union funded Project that incorporates the European Union National Institutions for Culture, namely the British Council of the United Kingdom, Alliance Francais of France and the Goethe Institut of Germany. The Harare Conversations are the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s initiative to discuss the relevant and upcoming issues with regards to contemporary art, design and craft by providing a meeting point for art sector professionals, administrators, artists and members of public.

On Wednesday the 29th and Friday the 30th of October two sessions of the Harare Conversations will be held at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. The exhibition’s co-curators Christine Eyene and Raphael Chikukwa will facilitate the talk and the featured artists will give their views on their working experience on the project and give the public an insight on what their artwork stands for and its relevance with regards to Creative Industry in Zimbabwe.
The artists include Ifeoma Anyaeji from Nigeria, Delaine Le Bas from the United Kingdom, Alexandra Bircken and Sebastian Herkner from Germany, matali crasset and Michel Paysant from France, and Tapfuma Gutsa from Zimbabwe. Each artist carries their own signature style and represents a diverse intermeshing of disciplines from art, fashion, design to craft. The public will have the opportunity to inquire the artists on their work and guiding philosophies.

Representatives from the weaving communities namely Zienzele Foundation from Masvingo, Binga Craft Centre, Bulawayo Home Industries, Lupane Women’s Centre and STEP Trust from Honde Valley in Manicaland will also so be present to share on the effect the project has contributed to their creative approach and how they executed their work in collaboration with the artists, whom of which work in an individual mode. The Harare Conversations take place at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare at 10h00.
