The Eighth Lihpao Sculpture Biennial Awards invites artists worldwide to compete in one of Asia’s leading international sculpture competitions, offering significant cash prizes and global exposure through an internationally recognised platform.

Open Call:

The Lihpao Cultural Arts Foundation, in collaboration with the Austrian Office Taipei and with support from Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, invites submissions for the Eighth Lihpao Sculpture Biennial Awards.

Now in its eighth edition, the biennial seeks to bring together artists from around the world and foster international cultural exchange through the language of sculpture. Since its inception, the competition has attracted 1,347 artists from 68 countries and has recognised more than 100 award winners.

Institutional Context:

Founded in 2003, the Lihpao Cultural Arts Foundation promotes artistic development and international cultural exchange through exhibitions, awards and public programmes. The Sculpture Biennial Awards were established to encourage artistic innovation, support emerging and established sculptors, and strengthen connections between Taiwan and the global art community.

The eighth edition is co-organised with the Austrian Office Taipei, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering cross-cultural dialogue through contemporary art. Austria’s rich cultural heritage and international artistic influence form part of the context for this year’s collaboration.

Eligibility and Criteria:

The competition is open to all artists aged 18 years and older, regardless of nationality.

Submitted works should primarily be created from materials suitable for long-term display and demonstrate a strong engagement with contemporary sculptural practice. Sculptors working across all approaches and methodologies are encouraged to apply.

Evaluation Process:

Entries will be assessed by an international jury comprising distinguished artists, curators and academics. The panel has been assembled to ensure high artistic standards and an international perspective throughout the selection process.

Location: International open call administered from Taiwan

First Prize: USD 45,000

Silver Prize: USD 25,000

The competition is organised by the Lihpao Cultural Arts Foundation in partnership with the Austrian Office Taipei and supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture. Collaborating academic institutions include the National Taiwan University of Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts and Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, Japan.
