Anawana Haloba’s Festival Exhibition 2026 transforms Bergen Kunsthall into a resonant landscape of memory, resistance and collective becoming.
2 June 2026

Bergen Kunsthall presents ‘From This Darkness I Shall Grow’, the highly anticipated Festival Exhibition 2026 by Zambian-Norwegian artist Anawana Haloba, one of the most compelling voices in contemporary art today. Marking one of Norway’s most prestigious artistic commissions, the exhibition unfolds as a powerful meditation on survival, ancestral knowledge and the radical possibilities of collective expression.
Drawing inspiration from the work of Aboriginal Australian poet and filmmaker Romaine Moreton, Haloba’s exhibition traces a journey from oppression towards agency. Through sound, text, sculpture and movement, she engages female craft traditions and the polyphonic ceremonial practices of Tonga culture, where layered voices become instruments of remembrance, resistance and transformation.
At the heart of the exhibition is an ongoing dialogue with the legacy of textile artist Hannah Ryggen, weaving together questions of history, embodiment and political visibility. The result is an immersive environment where personal and collective narratives converge, creating a space charged with rhythm, care and resilience.
‘From This Darkness I Shall Grow’ affirms Haloba’s place at the forefront of international contemporary art while offering a profound reflection on how communities endure, remember and imagine otherwise.
This exhibition is on view at Bergen Kunsthall in Norway until 6 September 2026.
