Writing Art History Since 2002

First Title

Amongst many exciting projects, two must-see projects are Dan Halter’s Heart Land and the BRICS Project by the Goethe Institut.

In Heart Land, his dedicated special project for the Fair, Halter addresses themes of a dislocated national identity and the politics of post-colonial Zimbabwe within a broader African context. He uses materials ubiquitous to South Africa and Zimbabwe, thus employing the language of craft and curio as a visual strategy to articulate his concerns within a fine art context. Don’t miss his walkabout on Saturday 28th at 1.30pm.

For the BRICS Project, the Goethe-Institut is presenting a selection of video works by artists from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, in a nod to the growing influence of these rising national powers. The exhibition considers the ways that artists have started to define new identities in countries defined by rapid change.
