Sharp fingers, tortured bodies, pierced flesh

Iconic sponsor of the first edition of the In-Discipline programme, Dominique Zinkpè takes us this season again into the mazes of his creation. The artist’s approach is complex and diverse. Far from confining himself to a plastic writing, it is through a multidisciplinary practice that his singular trait stands out: intimate, audacious, sometimes provoking.

Undoubtedly referring to our human comedy, Dominique Zinkpè today unveils a series of drawings which are intermingled mischievous characters, halfway between the human being and the animal. Sharp fingers, tortured bodies, pierced flesh, certainly organized the chaos, as if to account for what is most bestial in man, verges on caricature.

The animist culture certainly nourishes the inspirations of the artist. These twirling genies, dislocated like rag dolls, show a certain syncretism. These evocations of voodoo ceremonies are actually initiatory rituals. To be open to knowledge, that of the human soul is undoubtedly at the heart of Dominique Zinkpè’s approach.
