Open Call:
The Constitutional Court Trust is inviting applications for a full-time paid curatorial internship working on the Constitutional Court Art Collection at the Constitutional Court of South Africa in Johannesburg.
Institutional Context:
The Constitutional Court Trust promotes human rights, the rule of law, constitutionalism and judicial independence in the African region, with a particular focus on the Constitutional Court of South Africa. It works through artistic expression, legal scholarship, exchange programmes, public education and library initiatives.
The Trust is also the custodian of the Constitutional Court Art Collection, a significant collection of mainly South African artworks that supports education, critical debate and research on the Constitution and the Constitutional Court.
Eligibility and Criteria:
Applicants must hold a qualification in visual arts, heritage, or a related field considered relevant to the internship. They must be South African citizens under 30, or under 30 with the right to live and work in South Africa.
Applicants must be recent graduates with no prior full-time work experience and must be able to commit to the full six-month internship. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously completed an internship in a gallery or museum environment.
Candidates should have a strong interest in South African history, art, and justice; careful handling of artworks and artefacts; good research and writing skills; attention to detail; English proficiency; Microsoft Office competence; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Evaluation Process:
Only complete applications submitted by email will be considered. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews, which will take place at the Constitutional Court Trust offices in Johannesburg on 25 June 2026.
Practical Information:
The internship runs for six months, from July 2026 to December 2026, on a full-time basis. The role is based at the Constitutional Court of South Africa in Johannesburg.
The internship includes work in art administration, curatorship, cataloguing and research. Tasks may include assisting with artwork rotations, maintaining records, minute-taking, contributing to reports, organising artworks on display and in storage, supporting conservation-related work, and researching the care of artworks.

Applicants must submit a motivational letter of no more than 500 words describing the relationship between art and justice, specifically in relation to an artwork of their choice from the Constitutional Court Art Collection. The letter must include a declaration that AI was not used to formulate it.
