First Title

Positioned at the intersection of research, production, and institutional access, the Caribbean Cultural Institute Fellowships foreground artistic and scholarly practices that rethink Caribbean art beyond fixed geographies.

11 April 2026

Open Call:
The Green Family Foundation Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) has opened its 2026 call for fellowships, inviting artists, researchers, scholars, and photographers from the Caribbean and its diaspora to apply. The programme includes three strands: the CCI Artist Fellowship, the CCI Research Fellowship, and the CCI + Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) Fellowship.

Structured as self-directed opportunities, the fellowships support projects that engage Caribbean cultural production through both artistic and research-based approaches. Emphasis is placed on practices that challenge dominant narratives and expand the field of Caribbean art and thought.

Institutional Context:
The CCI operates as a curatorial and research platform within Pérez Art Museum Miami, dedicated to advancing the study and visibility of Caribbean art and its diasporas through exhibitions, fellowships, and public programming.

Situated in Miami – the initiative reflects an ongoing effort to position Caribbean cultural production within global contemporary art discourse, while also raising questions about institutional mediation and geographic centrality.

Eligibility and Criteria:
The fellowships are open to Caribbean artists, researchers, scholars, and female or nonbinary photographers based in the region or its diaspora.

  • The Research Fellowship targets established or emerging scholars whose work advances the study of Caribbean art.
  • The Artist Fellowship supports emerging to mid-career practitioners working across disciplines.
  • The CCI + WOPHA Fellowship is specifically designed for women and nonbinary photographers exploring image-based practices.

Applicants are expected to propose projects that would benefit from access to PAMM’s collections, archives, and institutional networks.

Evaluation Process :
Applications are reviewed competitively, with selection based on the strength of the proposal, its relevance to Caribbean art and culture, and its potential contribution to scholarship or artistic practice.

Projects that demonstrate critical engagement with Caribbean contexts – whether through research, production, or interdisciplinary inquiry – are prioritised, alongside the applicant’s capacity to fully realise the project within the fellowship framework.

Practical Information:
The fellowships will take place between September and December 2026, with exact dates determined in consultation with selected fellows.

  • The Research Fellowship includes a hybrid format, with a two-week residency in Miami, travel and accommodation covered, and a research stipend plus up to $1,000 in expenses.
  • The Artist Fellowship offers institutional support, mentorship, and a production budget of up to $4,000.
  • The WOPHA Fellowship similarly supports the development of new or ongoing photographic projects.

Fellows gain access to PAMM’s collections, academic networks, and collaborative opportunities with partner institutions.

Applications and Queries:
Applications close on 1 June 2026, with submission details and guidelines available via the CCI fellowship portal.

Applicants are encouraged to align their proposals with the programme’s emphasis on research, experimentation, and critical engagement with Caribbean cultural production. Queries regarding the fellowship can be directed to the CCI team via PAMM.
