The ART AFRICA Residency is a transdisciplinary platform where collaborative projects are designed and brought to life to inspire positive change in the Hout Bay community.
ART AFRICA Founders Suzette and Brendon Bell-Roberts initiated extensive renovations to the property during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in 2020. The recently completed studio gallery and apartments are nestled in the heart of Hout Bay, Cape Town, at the base of the breathtaking Karbonkelberg Peak, a part of the Table Mountain National Park. The view from the residency overlooks the bustling harbour of Hout Bay and the Hangberg fishing community, which many of our initiatives serve.
The residency programme is a collaborative effort with the local community, aimed at addressing challenges, inspiring the youth, and unlocking opportunities across Hout Bay. Our diverse programming includes long-term research, exhibitions, parties and events, performances, workshops, and published work, all with a strong community focus.
As an ART AFRICA initiative, our projects receive robust support from the magazine in the form of professional guidance, mentorship, design, PR, and communications. The projects are also extensively covered in the magazine, on our social media platforms, and in documentary videos, ensuring your work reaches a broad audience.
Whether you’re an artist, performer, designer, innovator, academic, or cultural maverick, we invite you to contact us to learn more about the ART AFRICA residency.
