Padimai Art & Tech Studio invites artists and creative practitioners to join Origin of Primary Source (OOPS), a three-month online residency exploring contemporary art, blockchain technology, digital archiving, and creative experimentation.

7 July 2026

Open Call:

Applications are now open for the inaugural edition of Origin of Primary Source (OOPS), Padimai Art & Tech Studio’s international on-chain artist residency. Running over three months, the remote programme invites participants to explore blockchain technologies as creative tools for artistic production, documentation, authorship, and knowledge sharing. Residents will develop new approaches to digital art while examining NFTs as systems for recording, preserving, and extending creative practice.

Institutional Context:

Based in Singapore, Padimai Art & Tech Studio is an artistic laboratory dedicated to the relationship between art, emerging technologies, and blockchain infrastructure. The studio develops experimental digital ecosystems that support creative research, collaborative learning, and digital archiving. OOPS draws inspiration from object-oriented programming, using inheritance, abstraction, encapsulation, and polymorphism as conceptual frameworks for the residency.

Eligibility and Criteria:

The open call welcomes creative practitioners working at the intersection of art, technology, and blockchain. Applicants should demonstrate experience in relevant creative or technological fields or a strong commitment to exploring blockchain and NFT technologies through artistic practice. The programme particularly encourages practitioners interested in sharing methodologies, documenting creative processes, and contributing to collaborative digital knowledge. Five participants will be selected for the first residency.

Evaluation Process:

Selected artists will develop projects within the OOPS conceptual framework, addressing digital archiving, artistic documentation, creative data organisation, technological experimentation, and new forms of engaging with artworks through blockchain systems. At the conclusion of the residency, participants will submit three NFTs created during the programme to Padimai as part of the residency outcomes.

Practical Information:

The residency is fully remote and takes place through online meetings and community engagement. Each selected participant will receive an honorarium of SGD 15,000, alongside an additional SGD 5,000 dedicated to documentation.

Application deadline: 15 August 2026

Residency dates: 20 September to 20 December 2026
