A Major Platform Supporting Emerging Artistic Talent in the UAE
Applications are now open for the 2026 Christo and Jeanne Claude Award, an annual initiative designed to support the next generation of UAE-based artists. Presented by New York University Abu Dhabi in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation and produced in collaboration with The NYUAD Art Gallery, the Award continues its mission to nurture ambitious public art that reflects the spirit of Christo and Jeanne Claude’s globally influential practice.
Celebrating Large-Scale Vision and Public Imagination
Established under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, the Award invites artists to propose a work conceived for public exhibition. From photography and film to land art, sculpture, and multimedia installation, the Award encourages projects that engage audiences through scale, experimentation, and public encounter.
The legacy of Christo and Jeanne Claude, whose monumental interventions transformed landscapes and cities around the world, anchors the Award’s ethos. Their works, including The Reichstag in Berlin and The Gates in New York, continue to influence generations of artists, with drawings and documentation held in leading global collections such as the Guggenheim, Tate, and Centre Pompidou.
What the Award Offers
The winning proposal will receive a USD 10,000 production grant to bring the artwork to life. The final work will be publicly exhibited at Abu Dhabi Art, New York University Abu Dhabi, and Umm Al Emarat Park in November 2026, offering a significant platform for visibility and engagement.
Applicants must submit an application form with a detailed proposal and production budget.
