The Sasol New Signatures art competition was established by the Association of Arts Pretoria in the early 1960’s, and is the longest running, national art competition in South Africa. This year, Sasol celebrates a milestone in its contribution towards the development of South Africa’s arts and culture industry in this, its 25th year as a lead sponsor of the Sasol New Signatures art competition.

The Sasol New Signatures art competition has grown into one of the main competitions on the arts calendar in South Africa, and today winners of the competition are household names. Sasol New Signatures is unique in that it is the only competition for new artists, allowing them the opportunity to showcase their work for the first time. The competition is open to artists who are 18 or older (South African citizens) and who have not held a solo exhibition (a body of at least 20 works exhibited in a commercial gallery) except for academic purposes.
Art plays an important part in the cultural fabric of our nation and competitions serve to encourage greater creativity across age, gender and education, as well as to acknowledge the wealth of talent that we have in our country. Sasol has emerged as one of the leaders in the continued support of arts and culture in South Africa.
