Andrew Putter presents new work at the Michaelis Galleries

Process work by Andrew Putter and the Sketch Assembly
CAPE TOWN — Andrew Putter, who in recent years has dedicated his
creative energies to reimagining the Cape visual archive, is presenting a show of new work. Sketch Assembly: Merry Company, on at the Michaelis Galleries (October 19-21), is the latest installment in his
award-winning Hottentots Holland cycle.

Produced while a
fellow of the Gordon Institute for Performing and
Creative Arts, based on the Hiddingh campus, this educational,
interdisciplinary project is the culmination of Putter’s collaboration
with 30 artists and designers; the finished work, a series of
photographic tableaux, re-imagines the ‘Hottentots’ and Dutch at the
Cape in the 1600s.

The exhibition launches at 18:00 on Tuesday October 19, and will be
open from 10am to 5pm on October 20 and 21. Putter will also present a
public lunchtime lecture at 1pm on October 20.
