Through a unique artistic alchemy, Ahmed Hajoubi transforms raw materials into striking works of art, whether through bas-reliefs or wall sculptures. The artist’s creative process transcends notions of recycling to reach a level of unique artistic expression, where the qorchâl, a symbol of painful childhood memories, metamorphoses into an aesthetic object.

After exhibiting his works in 2023 at two prestigious African contemporary art fairs, 1-54 London at Somerset House and Akaa Paris at the Carreau du Temple, So Art Gallery announces the much-anticipated exhibition in Morocco “Ahmed Hajoubi: An Alchemy of Opposites.” So Art aims to offer art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to explore the rich and complex universe of this extraordinary artist. The opening is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

“The work of Ahmed Hajoubi immerses us in the heart of a personal mythology where various elements intertwine, from childhood memories to adult concerns. Over the past twenty years, the artist has built an artistic universe around parental figures, highlighting the evocative power of metallic objects and the qorchâl, a wool carding comb that becomes a true medium charged with meaning,” explains Olivier Rachet, arts and culture journalist.

Ahmed Hajoubi’s art is not limited to a single form of expression. He explores the boundary between painting and sculpture, giving free rein to an intense desire for color and painting. Each work, whether monochrome or bursting with colors, reflects the depth of Hajoubi’s artistic soul and his constant desire for exploration.

Each piece in the exhibition tells a unique story, each work is imbued with the very essence of the artist. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover Ahmed Hajoubi’s artistic evolution through his latest creations, ranging from his three-dimensional iron sculptures to his wall compositions inspired by traditional Moroccan architecture.

The exhibition will be on view from the 28th of May until the 31st of July, 2024. For more information, please visit So Art gallery.
