For the first edition of AKAA (Also Known As Africa) – taking place in Paris at the Carreau du Temple from 3 – 6 December 2015 – twenty-five galleries from ten different countries have been carefully selected by the AKAA Committee. Alongside the announcement of the confirmed exhibitors, Victoria Mann (Founder and Director of AKAA) has resolved that the fair will go on despite the recent terror attacks across the city of Paris.
“After the attacks of Friday, November 13th that plunged France into mourning, and despite the horror and sadness, we are resolved to go on with AKAA,” said AKAA founder and director, Victoria Mann; “The value of freedom, which is part of the French identity, cannot be sacrificed. Now, more than ever, we must act together for peace and life. The role of culture and art in affirming that spirit cannot be underestimated.”
Mann has assured visitors that they will be taking all necessary precautions so that the fair remains safe for everyone.

These twenty-five galleries collectively represent over one hundred artists, from twenty-five different countries, working in a variety of mediums, from painting to installations and photography, which has a strong presence at the inaugural edition of the fair.
AKAA also offers a rich and diverse cultural program that will afford the public the opportunity to discover and take part in exchanges at the heart of the contemporary art scene from Africa.
