IEDAs: A Journal of Transdisciplinary Practices in Art & Design invites artists, designers, researchers, educators, curators, writers and creative practitioners to contribute to its third volume, exploring how intelligence, knowledge and imagination are being redefined in an age of artificial intelligence.

Open Call:
Applications are open for Volume III of IEDAs: A Journal of Transdisciplinary Practices in Art & Design, titled After Intelligence: The Future of Imagination. The volume considers a moment when established ideas of intelligence are being unsettled by artificial and computational systems, asking where knowledge resides and how it is produced, encountered, and expressed.
Rather than approaching artificial intelligence solely as a subject, the journal invites contributors to consider After Intelligence through transdisciplinary practices in art and design. It asks how imagination and expression might expand when creative practices move across disciplines, systems and ways of knowing.
Institutional Context:
IEDAs is an initiative of the UNESCO Chair on Inclusion through Art, established in February 2024 at the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts & Design at Beaconhouse National University, under Chairholder Professor Rashid Rana.
The UNESCO Chair strengthens the institution’s capacity through the IEDA Initiative, or Interdisciplinary Expanded Design and Art, alongside other activities centred on inclusion through art. The first volume of IEDAs was launched in June 2025.
Eligibility and Criteria:
The call is open to artists, designers, researchers, educators, curators, writers and creative practitioners.
Contributions may take a range of forms, including artistic research, research papers, critical essays, analytical writing, dialogues, debates, conversations, letters, manifestos, provocative statements, non-fiction poetry and prose, and speculative writing.
Multimedia submissions may include visual and media essays, sound and audio explorations, culinary narratives, design case studies, alternative and indigenous knowledge systems, interdisciplinary collaborative projects and performance. Hybrid and experimental formats combining text, visuals and multimedia are also welcomed.
Evaluation Process:
The open call does not provide specific information about the evaluation panel, judging criteria or selection process. Applicants should ensure that their proposals engage meaningfully with the volume’s theme and its focus on transdisciplinary approaches to art, design, knowledge and imagination.
