with a solo exhibition at Brundyn + Gonsalves.
Titled A History of Failure, the exhibition critically examines myths of progress in the construction of historical narratives, in particular the connection between historicity and identity in South Africa. Using fictional fragments and representations of historical markers of industrial progress, such as South Africa’s railway networks, Rossouw posits an “inherent failing in projects, monuments or nations that are dependent on the illusion of history”.
Look out for a work titled “De La Rey”, which refers to a fictitious Zeppelin built by the South African government in the 1930s and then tragically destroyed.
