Amine El Gotaibi / Perspective de Séduction

About

Perspective de Séduction follows Amine El Gotaibi’s series of drawings titled Perspective de Brebis. This exhibition consists of a site-specific installation in the patio of Dar Moulay Ali, commissioned by L’Institut Français de Marrakech. Perspective de Séduction addresses the hierarchical man/ animal and man/ power relationships. The dynamic of domination/persuasion and training/domestication is akin to a seduction: pursued without violence but with the aim of restricting someone’s existence. In this body of work, El Gotaibi attempts to liberate the sheep, quintessentially symbolic of the masses and submission. The backdrop of Dar Moulay Ali, a space perpetually reconciling with its multiple states and identities – palace then consulate – creates a synergy between its roots and Amine El Gotaibi’s work.
